Job Summary and Essential Functions:

Project Description

The intern will be required to review and understand the current structure of the SOP’s used in commercial manufacturing.  The intern will interact and collaborate with the additional four commercial manufacturing interns to design and propose video training aids to supplement current SOPs.

This project will require in depth learning and observation of multiple process steps across all commercial manufacturing suites.  The intern will also learn about the regulations and control associated with changes across the business.  Following the proposal of the video training aids, the interns will be expected to be part of the team to update the SOP’s and see the project through change control, work flow and implementation.

Commercial manufacturing is looking for a variety of educational backgrounds (Digital Video Production /Teaching/Engineering/ Graphic Design / Communication).  The majority of the SOP’s used in commercial manufacturing are written by individuals with a scientific background.  By incorporating multiple backgrounds, we will be able to obtain different views using digital media.

Digital Preservation Internship (Sci-Tech Council)

Summer 2015

The Academy Science and Technology Council is developing architecture and supporting tools for digital motion picture archiving applications addressing the impact of new technologies on the future of preserving the sound and image integrity of digital motion pictures. The digital preservation intern position will report to the associate director of the Science and Technology Council and support various Academy projects, gaining experience with innovative digital preservation technologies, learning about current trends in motion picture production, post-production and the associated technologies, learning about the Academy’s digital preservation effort and participating in development of new systems and processes for the preservation of digital motion picture images. Some key areas of responsibility will include:

 Assisting in the development of a robust architecture for storing and preserving digital sound and image files at the highest quality possible

 Assisting in the creation of software tools and metadata schema for advancing the current Academy test bed solution for digital archiving

 Writing reports and work instructions to support the development process of an advanced digital archiving solution

 Analyzing stored assets and file integrity of stored data and developing methods and systems to streamline the workflow for digital preservation

 Researching new technologies for the preservation of digital image files and writing reports describing key technologies that may be integral for the advancement of preserving digital image files

 Performing other related duties as assigned

Specific Requirements:

A keen interest in motion pictures and motion picture technology, production workflows, pipeline design, image processing, file metadata and containers, digital storage systems and data integrity measurement techniques

 Knowledge of programming methodologies as it relates to digital asset management systems

 Experience with library sciences

 Knowledge of Linux, Solaris, or similar OS

 Knowledge of iRODS; ZFS desirable

The Albany Twilight League is a summer amateur/semi-pro baseball league for players 18 years and older. It is the oldest league in the country in existence since 1931. The league has seen dozens of players over its 82 years of existence go on to enjoy professional baseball careers and some return after their pro careers to extend their playing days. The majority of current players are either playing college ball or have played collegiately, and participate in the league each summer to hone their skills and aspire to play professionally. Museum of the Moving Image offers full-time, paid summer internships. Under the supervision of department heads, interns have the opportunity to learn about the full range of Museum operations. Undergraduates entering their senior year in fall 2015, college graduates, and graduate students are eligible to apply.

The Museum’s offices are open Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Collection Curatorial: Intern will assist with researching a new, major acquisition for the Museum’s collection, and with general research support into recent and pending acquisitions.

Development: Intern will assist with the administrative needs of the development and membership department, including but not limited to research, data entry, and mailings, as well as event planning.

Film: Intern will assist in research, preparation, and implementation of film screenings and discussion programs, and with various web projects and publications. Intern will also assist with research for installations and exhibitions.

Institutional Archive: Intern will assist with a comprehensive inventory of the Institutional Archive, which contains documents, photographs, brochures, and products created by the Museum throughout its 30 year history.
